Answering the Call to Care
“Words carry as much, if not more, power than needles or herbal medicine to re-establish a state of health and harmony in a suffering patient.”
There is no denying we are at a pivotal time in history, one we can recognize as we are living in it. In the spirit of predictive retrospection, how do we want to see ourselves when we zoom out and observe our actions and our words?
Hearing the Call
In the beginning of June my dreamscape started showing me a vision of something I’ve been wanting and believing should be in existence since Grad School for TCM. The vision was a safe place for marginalized people to receive affordable, accessible alternative health care. Then another quote came into my mind - in James Earl Jones’s voice, no less - “If you build it, they will come.” Corny and real AF. What do ya know, the space next door to my office just opened up and my neighboring colleague, Amanda of Light Force Health, was bringing her Denver Recovery Lounge to life. My inner voice, still as deep and loud as James Earl Jones, said with excitement and trepidation, “It is time!”
Respecting the Vision
In the spirit of growth, honesty and wellness, I intend to be very clear, my vision is to bring the struggles of affected communities into focus and begin paying reparations to those in need.
My ever-evolving self is stripping away fear that has debilitated me for years by playing small. I believe it is imperative to be transparent, come from an authentic place, and show up fully in everything I do. I seek knowledge while honoring tradition and then practice what I preach. I am here to treat through the medicine that I’ve been trained in and will continue to be an advocate for health and wellness of mind, body, and spirit. East and west alike, we are all here in this melting pot and I aim to unify the tools we know. The body doesn’t know different languages, it responds via cellular signaling, chemical bonds, and electron exchange. I’m just here to help those in need and I will meet them where they are in their process.
Responding to the Call
Community Acupuncture at the Denver Recovery Lounge
Through my readings, reflections, and the confluence of opportunities presenting themselves at a time of social unrest, it was time to answer the call.
I have begun a Wednesday night Community Acupuncture Clinic for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, and Low Income populations. Point of Balance has afforded me the opportunity to provide these services on a sliding scale ($10-40). The clinic is for those who aren’t heard, those without an abundance of money and access, those who suffer due to the obvious and criminal discrepancies of health care to non-white people within our systems. I won't wait for the system to change, I won’t wait for someone else to define equality, I am answering the call and have created a space and to utilize my skills in support of those in need.
How You Can Help
The most helpful thing you can do is spread the word within our Denver Metro communities!
Share the Community Acupuncture web page featuring all of the clinic details and a link to book.
If you are in a position to hand out or post flyers, you can download the Community Acupuncture Flyer.
The Clinic would also benefit from volunteers and in-kind or cash donations. If you are able to contribute, please reach out to me directly via email.
